Jan Kapstein has a very extensive list of philatelic literature of the Baltic area, indexed by country, period, topic (indexed are the magazine HBG (complete), Lithuania (complete), Bulletin of the Ph. Soc. of New York (partly), Phillit (last years), LPS (last years), and others.

Baltische Postorte 1632-1918, Harry v.Hofmann, Detailed listing/index of the post towns of the parts of the Russian Empire now in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, with Cyrillic and Roman version, German or local versions etc, invaluable guide for the Baltic collector looking at Russian period postmarks. Estonia

Estonia: Handbook, Hurt & Ojaste, Massive handbook listing all aspects of Estonia stamps and postal history, with stamps from 1918 to WWII Occupations plus locals, with great detail on varieties, proofs, etc, also postmarks from prestamp and Russian period, provisional cancels, TPOs, 1st edition, 1986, in English and German, illus, ~900 pages. There is a 1988 supplement.

Latvia Map Stamps, J. Barefoot, This study covers both the map side and the stamp side of this interesting issue, 2nd edition, 1987, in English, illus, 36 pages. Available from the author.

The Stamps of Latvia, Stereo Stamps, provides a catalog listing of stamps from 1918 through German and Russian Occupation including listing of all post offices of this period, illus, 52 pages,1979. Available from the author.

Lettland Handbuch Vol II/III, Harry v. Hofmann, Postage stamps from 1920 surcharges through to 1940, very detailed handbook covering all aspects of philatelic background, printing, plating, varieties, proofs, bogus, with valuations on a points system, 1st edition, 1988, in German, illus, 313 pages.

Lettland Handbuch Vol V - Die Stempel, Harry, v.Hofmann, Detailed listing of all known postmarks 1919-1940, including 1919 provisionals, regular postmarks with a full listing of all towns and sub-types, TPOs, slogan cancels, meter mail, etc., 1st edition, 1988, in German, illus, 318 pages.

The Revenue Stamps of Latvia, W. Apsit, B. Egle, J. Norton. This catalogue lists the known revenue stamps producted for use in Latvia or for Latvia and nearby areas. It does not list issues for all of Czarist Russia or the Soviet Union. It has much more information than Barefoot's revenue catalog including frame sizes and varieties. Prices are also listed. The Catalogue is devoted to the philatelists with interest of postage stamps of modern Lithuania. The main text of the Catalogue is presented in Lithuanian and English (italic fonts). The Catalogue is offset printed in A5 format. Charity stamps and stamps for vending machines are presented at the end of the Catalogue. The Catalogue is specialized: many varieties of paper, colors, perforation, varieties of printing plates and plate errors are presented in it. The prices of the postage stamps are presented in US$ and are indicated just as the offering prices for exchange in the market. It is the first attempt to evaluate the prices of the variants of Lithuanian (1990-2005) postage stamps. There were many postage tariffs changes during the period. These changes of the Postage tariffs are presented in the table at the end of the Catalogue.
